  • A few words in English

Henri-Louis Lacouchie was born in Talence (Gironde) in 1921. He was the son of a porcelain painter. Does this explain his passion for drawing and painting? Is this the reason why, a high school student, he spent evenings with his art teacher to improve his drawing abilities? Does this explain his frequent visits to Van Den Berg’s workshop – a restorer for Le Louvre, who was then a refugee in Limousin, and who taught him the « hidden » aspect of painting?

Henri-Louis Lacouchie led a life of creation. Passion, imagination and technique are always present in his painting. He converted the first floor of his house into a studio, where he painted all day, almost every single day of the year. At the end of his life, he had probably painted some 700 works. He also participated in about 150 exhibitions and won several prizes.

The quality of his painting is well established. The richness of his inner world, his imagination at the limit of surrealism add up to his originality. Henri- Louis Lacouchie is a colorist, and his powerful compositions highlight and trigger emotion.
